NEWS FLASH: The Mundane To Do List Gets a Glamorous Make OverWe all have them. Whether its a written list, an online list, or just a tick sheet in your head. We all have to-do lists. If you don’t have a to-do list and are wondering aimlessly through your day-GET ORGANIZED…and get a to-do list.

I’m not referring to a random list of things to do and haphazardly checking them off. I mean being really motivated to improve yourself and accomplish goals. It doesn’t matter if the goals of the day are as simple as getting the shopping done or cleaning off your desk. By accomplishing seemingly menial tasks, you can train yourself to accomplish larger goals.

Having an actual list of things to do, goals to accomplish for the day, will help you accomplish more because your time will be better managed. Once you have assembled your list of things to do for the day, Prioritize It. Prioritizing your list will allow you to work more efficiently. Don’t spend all day running errands all over town, organize your errands of places you have to go in a circle so you’re not driving by your house 3 times in an hour. This will save you gas, time, and stress. Saving gas saves you money. If time is money, saving time saves you money. Reducing stress saves you money as that’s one less head ache you’ll have to take something for.

So therefore, organization and prioritizing saves you money.

Once you have made your list, Stick To It. I know things will come up throughout the day that will distract you from your list, just get back to it as soon as possible. When you have the mind set of Accomplishment, you will be more driven to get things done. As you cross items off your list, and begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel, the sense of Accomplishment and Satisfaction set in. It’s great at the end of the day to sit back and say, “Man, what a great day. I accomplished so much!”

As a to-do list guru, or task master if you will, I cannot state this strongly enough: DO NOT put 100,000 items on your to-do list! You will only become discouraged and overwhelmed. If you have tasks on your list that spill over to the next day-it is not the end of the world. Just work harder tomorrow and reward yourself for your accomplishments. My reward is having extra quality time with friends and family.

As far as your actual to-do list goes, there’s a couple ways to tackle this beast. You can, of course, write-on paper-a traditional to-do list. If you’re sitting in front of your computer all day, and your desk is covered with a mass of paper”work”, this may not be the best choice. If you are working remotely from your lap top, you don’t want to forget said to-do list, so an actual list may not work for you either. But Wait! There are online resources to help you make and check off your list. If you use igoogle or gmail you can set up a to-do list here or check out: www.tadalist.com which is compatible with various browsers and has an iphone application.

Good luck with your list and I hope accomplishing more daily allows you more quality time for whatever you choose. Now back to my list….Blog Post-Check!
