Junior Achievement:

Connie Lanzl accepted the position of president in August of 2010 and is responsible for the overall leadership and management of JA programs serving schools in Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties. By working with schools, businesses, and volunteers, JA provides hands-on, experiential lessons focusing on work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy for students in grades K-12.

Lanzl came to Greenville in 1997 when her husband, Steve, accepted a job as Bowater’s CIO. Shortly after arriving, she continued her career in educational fundraising first at Camperdown Academy and then for the last twelve years at Christ Church Episcopal School as director of the development office. Prior to moving to South Carolina, Lanzl headed development offices in an independent school in Philadelphia and an international school in Tokyo, Japan, and has done work as a consultant for capital and endowment campaigns.

Events and Marketing Director of Junior Achievement of Upstate South CarolinaSusan Spencer is the Events and Marketing Director of Junior Achievement of Upstate South Carolina, Inc.

She graduated from The University of Toledo with a Degree in Theatre and Communications in 1985. Susan has been married for 25 years and has three children. She grew up Living in several different countries, which include Greece, Venezuela and Argentina, as her father worked in International business.

Over the years, Susan has been Involved in several non-profits, she held position as Secretary for The Crime Stoppers Board for 4 years, is the current SIC Co-Chair at Sevier Middle School, the past Co-PTA President at Paris Elementary and received an award as the Best PTA in the State of SC in 2000-2001, is a member of The Pleasantburg Rotary Club, DAR Vice-Regent in 2009-2010, 2nd year on The Moonlight and Magnolias Committee, Past Membership Chair and Reflections Char at Wade Hampton High School.

Junior Achievement is the world’s largest and fastest-growing volunteer driven non-profit economic education organization.

Since 1967, Junior Achievement of Upstate South Carolina has been preparing children to succeed in life through hands-on financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work-readiness programs.

This year more than 350 business professionals, parents, retirees and college students will enter our schools to teach Junior Achievement programs to 6,500 children. These volunteers use their personal experiences to make the Junior Achievement curricula practical and realistic. Providing children with positive adult role models, who illustrate ways to build self-confidence, develop skills and find avenues of success in our free enterprise system, is a hallmark of Junior Achievement.
